Proposal for a mixed-use commercial and residential building in Tehran, Iran
Tehran, with 12 million inhabitants, achieves the contradictory distinction of being one the most automobile dependent metropolises on earth, and one of the most verdant with its planted networks of tree-lined boulevards. It is an atmosphere equally rich with a mixture of plant spores and pollutants. Located on Valiasr Street, the Byophyte Building is continually shaded by the extremely tall trees, and becomes fertile ground for the natural propagation of surface-grown moss upon its exterior envelope. A recycling water system provides continuous light surface dampness, allowing the airborne spores to cling and propagate upon its irregular building outcroppings.
